Hasegawa-Ei Seichajyo, which operates "Chaho Yutoha," is a tencha tea farm that has been in business since the Edo period. We persist in tea cultivation using Uji's traditional “shaded cultivation” and “naturally managed tea farm” methods, which have become rare today. The tea we produce is tencha, the raw material for the finest matcha, grown in the rich soils of Rokujizo, Kohata in Uji, Kyoto. Carefully crafted from the soil in our tea farms, we bring you products prepared in our own tea factory, spanning six generations.
This matcha is smooth and medium-bodied, with a pleasant grassy freshness and a slight umami note. It has little bitterness, very low astringency, and a gentle vegetal sweetness. It blends beautifully into lattes with a rich color and creamy texture, making it a great choice for everyday drinking.
Tried their Okumidiri last week and decided to blind buy Hiroaki for fun and it did not dissapoint! Been slightly switching to local brands instead of mainstream big brands due to the shortage and markup prices, so the wide variety and availability that this brand offers is a relief for someone like me who drinks matcha religiously everyday.
The taste is a nice balance of astringent and vegetal! (some people would describe it as "grassy" and compared to more nutty matcha's like the okumidori I would definitely agree; however the grassy notes are pleasant and I really love it!) Would for sure buy more Hiroaki in the future but Okumidori is still something I would reach out for more (but it could definitely just be a preference for creamy, nutty matcha lol).
